  1. Research information about the properties, locations, and movement of celestial bodies
  2. Completed Fact Flipper Template.

Student Expectation(s)

The student is expected to describe the physical properties, locations and movements of the Sun, planets, Galilean moons, meteors, asteroids, and comets.

Vocabulary

Mission: Create an organized celestial objects fact flipper.

To complete your mission, include or complete the following:

  1. Research information about the properties, locations, and movement of celestial bodies
  2. Completed Fact Flipper template

Materials (per student)

Computer with Internet access and with presentation software
Color printer
Exacto knife (1)
Glue stick (1)
Fact Flipper interactive template

Mission Instructions:

  1. Use the Fact Flipper presentation template to create a graphic visualization of information about celestialbodies.
  2. Research and fill in the missing information found on the template slides 7–12.
  3. Print the Fact Flipper presentation in handout format, six slides per page. Make sure to check the button on the print options page for framing the slides.
    a. You will have a page of six topic slides with images and a page of six information slides.
    b. Please see the example to the right.
  4. The first page contains the six topic slides. Carefully cut around the two sides and around the bottom of each slide to form a flap that can be folded at the top and lifted.
  5. Glue the page of topic flaps on top of the information page containing the information slides 7–12.
    a. Be careful not to glue the flaps you have cut out!
  6. You can now see the information about each celestial body you researched by lifting the corresponding image flap.

Mission Assessment:

  1. In your own words, explain how gravity affects the motion of celestial bodies in the solar system.
  2. What are the similarities and differences between Earth’s Moon and other moons in the solar system?
